Accounting Technician

This position is located within the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Office of the Chief Financial Officer (OCFO). The primary purpose is for the establishment of obligations, audit and preparation for payment of the various types of vouchers, the preparation of accounting entries, the maintenance of subsidiary ledgers, and the recordings of financial transactions within the Office of the Chief Financial Officer, Office of Financial Management (OFM), Finance Centers. With over 250 employees, OFM is the largest division within the OCFO, and is spread across three geographic locations - Headquarters in Washington, D.C. and two finance centers in Dallas, TX and Burlington, VT, respectively. OFM supports all financial management service needs for the agency such as accounting transactional activities, financial reporting, operation and maintenance of financial systems and multiple feeder systems, and travel and government charge card management. Furthermore, OFM is an accounting shared service provider for five Components within DHS.As an Accounting Technician, you will perform the following duties:
Examine, analyze, and interpret accounting data for governmental and commercial transactions. Provide customer service in support of the functions and mission of Financial Operations. Analyze obligations and contractual information ensuring transactions are accurate and appropriate and are in compliance with specified guidance provided by the US Treasury, the Department of Homeland Security and Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Work effectively with contacts at all levels to ensure that appropriate action is taken and that all parties are aware of and following regulations. GS-06:
You must meet the following to qualify at the GS-6 grade level:
Experience:
One year of specialized experience (equivalent to the GS-05 grade level in Federal service) performing duties such as:
(1) classifying and coding financial transactions such as payment vouchers; (2) preparing and reviewing financial documents to verify accounting data and necessary entries; (3) validating, monitoring, controlling and maintaining accounting transactions and accounting records using variety of procedures; (4) researching discrepancies between ledgers and making adjustments. Qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement. Qualification claims will be subject to verification. National Service Experience (i.e. volunteer experience):
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Current or Former Political Appointees:

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
